Changing File Finder options

CCleaner’s File Finder tool will locate duplicate files on your PC based on the options selected in the File Finder pane:

Match By options:

File Finder will compare files using their name, size, or modified date to see if they are identical. You can change these default settings in the Match By section.

Ignore options:

File Finder will ignore these files based on the options you select:

  • Zero-byte files – Files that have no data.
  • Read-only files – Files that File Finder can’t erase or change.
  • System files – Files important to the Windows operating system.
  • Hidden files – Files that normally don’t show up in the Windows Explorer.
  • File size under X MB – Files that are smaller than X MB in size.

Include tab:

File Finder will only look for duplicate files in these drives or folders, and of the specified type. To add a drive or folder for File Finder to search, click the Add button on the Include tab.

To choose a drive or folder to include, click Browse and then click the folder or drive.

File Types

By default, CCleaner will include all files in the selected drive or folder. You can choose to include only files of a certain type. To do so, click File Types: and type one or more file extensions. For example,

  • *.doc to include all .DOC files
  • *.exe;*.bat to include all .EXE and .BAT files

Options

If you select Include files only, CCleaner will only delete files located in the folder you have included. Selecting Include files and subfolders will cause CCleaner to search all subfolders within the selected folder for the files to be deleted.

Exclude tab:

File Finder will not look for duplicate files in these drives or folders – regardless of what’s on the Include tab. To exclude a drive or folder from File Finder, click the Add button on the Exclude tab.
